Welcome to a new year, and thank-you to all parents that attended the Year 1 information meeting last Friday morning. It was an amazing turnout. We hope that you found the handout useful with all the basic routines and information for this term. If you were unable to attend please speak to a member of staff and they will pass the paperwork to you.
Our learning Challenge for this term is called ‘What does it mean to be me?’.
The topic will cover elements of Science, History and Geography, R.E and P4C. The children will bring a range of ‘talk’ homework to share with you at home. Please allow quality time to share ideas with your child, encouraging them to speak in full sentences.
To help us with discussions in class please could your child bring a family photo for discussion.
The Science strand of the learning Challenge will focus on the ‘Five Senses.’ The children will take part in discussions, exploration activities and experiments. to support your child’s learning please the vocabulary sheet that was shared at the parents meeting.
In Mathematics the class will be developing their skills around addition, subtraction and number bonds. All children will be bringing ‘Mathletics’ logins to support their learning at home, by taking part in online tasks they will gain points and will receive certificates to show and share their ongoing achievements.
In English sessions the children will continue to take part in ‘Sound Steps’ (phonics) sessions, based around the screening that has happened over the last few weeks.
Remember to practise phonics at home, making it as much fun as possible, try to use the sites that were shared at the welcome meeting. If you are unsure about pronunciation of the sounds please ask a member of the team. We will be holding more meeting to support phonics and other reading skills as the year continues.
Our P.E session is on a Thursday, we also have other opportunities for Outdoor games so we suggest that P.E kits stay in school.
ORT Reading books will be given out very soon, watch this space, the books will be changed every Wednesday. Please remember to return the book every Wednesday and to sign and write a comment in your child’s yellow home school book.
Please stay with your child when you bring them in to support their ‘Early Work’ activity, it starts the day in a very positive way!
A lot of information has been shared in the last few weeks, please feel free to ask if you need some guidance with your child’s learning and how you can continue to support their learning at home.
Thanks all you support so far with your children’s learning! Mrs Tweedy and the year 1 team 🙂
